It was clear from the first tender meeting that CityPort Cold Stores was going to be a challenging project. 50,000 tonnes of unsuitable/acid sulphate, asbestos and hydrocarbon contaminated spoil export later, Blend handed over a Level 1 certified site, capped entirely in roadbase produced from on-site slab demolition works.
Scope

Demolition and clearing of existing trees and foliage
Demolition & stockpile of existing structural slabs, footings and external hardstand for crushing (20,000m2)
Remove and dispose 5,000m+ under slab asbestos weep pipe

Excavation and disposal of acid sulphate affected and unsuitable soils (40,000 tonnes)
Excavation and disposal of Class A asbestos contaminated soils (8,000 tonnes)
Abatement of asbestos contaminated concrete (2,000 tonnes)

Staged bulk cut and fill to meet stringent environmental guidelines
Final trimming of platforms, hardstands and batters (40,000m2)
Supply, place & compact roadbase to 450mm thick platform (inc. geo-grid reinforcement for ground improvement)
Crushing of demolished concrete slabs to 30mm minus roadbase (11,000 tonnes)

• Installation of new pits, pipes and headwalls
