It was clear from the first tender meeting that CityPort Cold Stores was going to be a challenging project. 50,000 tonnes of unsuitable/acid sulphate, asbestos and hydrocarbon contaminated spoil export later, Blend handed over a Level 1 certified site, capped entirely in roadbase produced from on-site slab demolition works. 

Scope

    • Demolition and clearing of existing trees and foliage

    • Demolition & stockpile of existing structural slabs, footings and external hardstand for crushing (20,000m2)

    • Remove and dispose 5,000m+ under slab asbestos weep pipe

    • Excavation and disposal of acid sulphate affected and unsuitable soils (40,000 tonnes)

    • Excavation and disposal of Class A asbestos contaminated soils (8,000 tonnes)

    • Abatement of asbestos contaminated concrete (2,000 tonnes)

    • Staged bulk cut and fill to meet stringent environmental guidelines

    • Final trimming of platforms, hardstands and batters (40,000m2)

    • Supply, place & compact roadbase to 450mm thick platform (inc. geo-grid reinforcement for ground improvement)

    • Crushing of demolished concrete slabs to 30mm minus roadbase (11,000 tonnes)

  • • Trench, battering/ benching for installation of new stormwater network

    • Installation of new pits, pipes and headwalls
